The best way to start your adventures in trapping
I was fortunate to have someone show me the trade of Fur Trapping, and with the guide, Trapping North American Furbearers, it fine tuned my adventures in trapping. I am glad I paid the few dollars for it, it's well worth the money. I find myself reading my book just before every trapping season because there are so many ideas in it. I have been trapping for 26 years now. Ed Collins

What the Bible Says About the Holy Spirit
Published in Paperback by Gospel Pub House (June, 1989)
Author: Stanley M. Horton
Average review score:

A Solid Book
This book is a very thorough analysis of the role of the Holy Spirit throughout the entire Bible. One of the most interesting chapters is the role of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. I found it very enlightening. This book is not for new Christians or beginner theologians, but more for theologians at the intermediate level. Sometimes it is hard to read because the sentence structure is interrupted by Biblical references in the middle of a sentence. Bible references should be footnoted at the end of the chapter. I recommend a person be very well versed in the Old Testament before buying this book.

Classic Reading on the Holy Spirit
Dr. Stanley Horton is one of the greatest theologians the Pentecostal movement has ever had. His writings are clear, biblical, and easy to follow. His word usuage is great and he avoids utalizing his vast information to overwhelm his readers.

This book is a classic on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Horton writes as a classical Pentecostal and he strongly believes that we need a sound understanding of the Holy Spirit in order to effectively minister in these last days.

The book covers the entire biblical teaching on the Holy Spirit from Genesis to Revelation. Dr. Horton breaks the study down into various themes from creation to salvation. His insights into the work of the Spirit in the Old Testament are great as well as his writing on the gifts of the Spirit in the church today.

While I did not fully agree with all of Dr. Horton's writing in this book, I do believe this is a must read for any person studying the Pentecostal view of the Holy Spirit.

A Classic Study by an Outstanding Pentecostal Scholar
Published in 1976, this book is a modern Pentecostal classic in pneumatology (the study of the Holy Spirit). Stanley Horton, Th.D., is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Bible and Theology at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Mo. He is a third generation Pentecostal who profoundly influenced the course of Assemblies of God theology. His academic expertise (including a mastery of the biblical languages) set a high standard for Pentecostals. He has authored many books and is the editor of Logion Press' Systematic Theology (Rev. Ed.) text, a scholarly composition by A/G ministers on important Bible doctrines. For those who want to know more about Mr. Horton, see the article on him in the Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements, edited by Burgess and McGee.

In this book, the author topically analyzes the Bible book by book, applying sound hermeneutical principles to reveal what scripture says about the Holy Spirit. The author deals with the Holy Spirit in (by chapter title)... 1) The World Today, 2) The Pentateuch, 3) The History of Israel, 4) The Writing Prophets, 5) The Life and Ministry of Jesus, 6) The Teaching of Jesus, 7) The Book of Acts, 8) Everyday Living, 9) The Ministry of Believers, 10) The Ministry of the Church, and 11) Supernatural Demonstrations. One will learn about the titles and symbols of the Holy Spirit along with His personality and deity and His gifts and fruit. The Pentecostal distinctive of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial, physical evidence of speaking in other tongues is also discusses. Another excellent companion volume to this classic is "The Holy Spirit: A Pentecostal Perspective" by Thomas Holdcroft. Both of these books were used as texts for my Bible College class on pneumatology. Thanks Opal Reddin for introducing them to me and for your anointed teaching ministry!

Winning the War Within
Published in Paperback by Thomas Nelson (September, 2002)
Authors: Charles, Dr Stanley and Charles F. Stanley
Average review score:

Hits the Mark
Charles Stanley accomplishes what he set out to do in this book. This is a very good tool if you are having problems with sin in your life. If you are human, chances are that you ARE having problems with sin. He gives you the tools and resources needed in overcoming sin. All you have to do is apply these biblical principles. Nothing exceptionally grand about the way he wrote the book. He gives some good illustrations, though. Mostly get-to-the-point information.

Nothing is more neccessary, nothing more urgent!
Our constant war within. To conquer sin is our relentless pursuit, this book makes that process more attainable. I recommend you to first read HOW TO LISTEN TO GOD, then continue with this one. Learn to hear GOD, then enter the war within, and live a truly victorious life!

If you care about your eternal life, BUY THIS BOOK!
Charles Stanley clearly defines the steps necessary to keep winning the battles against evil.

Zulfi Bhutto of Pakistan: His Life and Times
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (June, 1993)
Author: Stanley A. Wolpert
Average review score:

Good attempt at understanding a very complex man
In the beginning of this book Professor Wolpert writes aboout the two extreme opinions, he found, about Bhutto, everywhere he went in Pakistan. People either hated him or worshipped him, there was no other way about it. Wolpert says that in this book he has sought to reconcile the two Bhuttos or at least his two popular images. I don't think he quite succeeds. Though that does not mean he has failed either...it's just that Bhutto's was a schizoid personality. There were many Bhuttos, there was Bhutto the socialist, Bhutto the liberal but also the feudal Bhutto and the reactionary Bhutto. This is no bad book. Instead Mr Wolpert does manage to show us glimpses of all these Bhuttos but just glimpses...he never delves deeply into anyone of them. At times Wolpert is too severe on his subject, at other times, not severe enough. For instance one gets the feeling that he almost overlooks the responsibility Bhutto bore in the breakup of Pakistan. No matter how successful Wolpert really is in resolving all the contradictions and paradoxes within Bhutto's personality, I can attest that there was no want of effort. A must read for those interested in Post Partition Pakistani history. Never drab and always riveting!

A tour de force
Zulfi Bhutto is arguably the only interesting politician produced by his country, thus far. In a land known for its drab, faceless politicians who are just about as intriguing as a door knob ,ZAB was a whiff of fresh air_____and the crowds took to him in droves .Stanley Wolpert paints a remarkably life-like portrait of this gifted but tragically flawed former prime minister of Pakistan. To this day ZAB's mention stokes heated arguments across most segments of the political spectrum in his country____a man Pakistanis loved , as well as loved to hate .A strange admixture of Machiavelli , chairman Mao and Mussolini ___all rolled into one! A larger than life figure (by Pakistan's much diminished standards) he could be__ by turns__ charming , arrogant , vindictive ,compassionate, fascist and a democrat....a strange product of enlightened western education and dark atavistic-feudal forces.Wolpert traces Bhutto's life through his privileged childhood in pre-partition India onto his student years at UC Berkeeley and Oxford. His meteoric rise through Pakistan politics is ably narrated right upto the final denoument____his execution on cooked-up murder charges by the military junta that deposed him. This book is very well researched and draws upon extensive first hand interviews with Bhutto's friends & associates. It is peppered with interesting nuggets of information which would interest any student of Pakistan history. It is fairly "well-padded"Z.A Bhutto was a deeply divisive and polarising figure whose tragic end added a certain mystique to his legacy. This balanced ,objective but sympathetic account is a must read for Bhutto bashers as well as those who take a more kindly view of this complex figure.

ZULI BHUTTO OF PAKISTAN HIS LIFE AND TIMES
This is the most authentic book i have ever read on the articulative personality of zulfikar ali bhutto shaheed.I congratulate Prof Stanley Wolpert for writting such a terrific book.

America Divided: The Civil War of the 1960s
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (August, 2003)
Authors: Maurice Isserman, Michael Kazin, and Stanley W. Wells
Average review score:

A well-balanced and comprehensive study of the 1960's
In "America Divided: The Civil War of the 1960's," Maurice Isserman and Michael Kazin effectively summarize a painfully divisive yet enlightening decade in our nation's history. By focusing on political, cultural, and economic changes wrought by both the liberal and conservative camps, Isserman and Kazin give a comprehensive and objective account of the 1960's. The authors begin by making an interesting point by comparing the sweeping changes wrought by the Civil War with that of the 1960's and make the assertion that both periods had much in common with how they both changed and divided America. In the 1950's, America enjoyed both an economic and diplomatic prosperity in the wake of World War II. The average family income increased and the "affluent society" which arose out of it ironically became an identifying factor in causing much of the political and social divisiveness prevalent in the 1960's. The authors' examination of the civil rights movement and the beginnings of the Vietnam War can be seen as by products of the liberal tendency to view the prosperity of the 1950's as unequal and leaving out the margins of both the poor and non-white population. The Vietnam War was a casualty of American overconfidence in its role in world affairs in the wake of the anti-communism of the 1950's. Isserman and Kazin effectively balance the issues of womens' rights, civil rights, the student movement, and the counterculture and examine their role in both liberal and conservative politics. The authors assert that the Right gained more popularity among voters after the tumultuous years from 1965-1968. Religious life was also transformed in that many liberals questioned established religion and conservatives sought to reassert the morals and values of religion into the national culture. As a result of the 1960's, American political and social life was divided but,at the same time, more positively varied. Newly recognized social groups (gays, minorities, and women) gained more political and social clout and the conservative Right benefitted in the sense the New Left further proved to divide Democratic politics. This book is a must read for anyone to have a good comprehensive overview of the 1960's. My only problem with the book was its length (a little too short) but perhaps the short bibliographic essay at the book will inspire the reader to learn more than what the authors covered in the book. Overall, a must for a 60's historian's bookshelf.

Accurate, Comprehensive, & masterful Overview of the 1960s!
It is often said that history is written by the victors, meaning, I suppose, that the particular interpretation recorded for posterity reflects the ideology and perspective of those dominating forces successful in the particular struggle a particular historical treatment covers. Of course, such a self-serving interpretation may in fact vary wildly from anything like an accurate accounting of the actual unfolding of events and issues. Nowhere in contemporary society is such an inaccurate, disingenuous, and self-serving revisionist tendency likely as in the coverage and reflection on the events and issues of the sixties counterculture. Many recent tomes purport the times in such a solipsistic and self-serving fashion as to turn the truth on its very head. Yet all that is corrected in this wonderful overview of the momentous events and social, economic, and political issues as characterized the sixties. In "America Divided", a fascinating work comparing the deep and dangerous divisions within American society to those of the Civil War a hundred years before, authors Maurice Isserman and Michael Kazin accurately describe and explain the complex forces that seemed to strain the social fabric to the point of near-revolution and widespread violence in the streets.

The authors carefully avoid the twin mistakes of either overly romanticizing the perspectives, ideas, and issues of the youthful counter culturists to epic proportions on the one hand, or of summarily dismissing them as silly and superficial on the other hand, as is often the case with neo-conservative revisionists who would have us believe the manifest troubles of contemporary America stem primarily from the permissiveness of the counterculture rather than admit it is much more likely the result of massive and constant dislocations associated with scientific and technological change that is threatening the core values and mores of American culture. This book faithfully retraces and integrates the various strands running through the sixties into a seamless historical narrative that renders one of the most sophisticated, articulate, and accurate interpretations of a decade that left those of us who lived through it breathless and yet strangely unable to describe it to anyone who had not shared the experience.

After reading the book, one remembers that those times were indeed characterized by great complexity, diversity, and incredible intellectual ferment and debate. Other recent accounts that blame the counterculture for the contemporary cultural malaise overlook the amazing diversity and intense ongoing dialogue that often degenerated into violent confrontation, whether it be over free speech, civil rights, Vietnam, or the perfidy of the power elite comprised of multinational corporations and big government. This book is a compelling, immensely readable, and quite entertaining work, and one that brilliantly achieves its objective by accurately describing, explaining, and integrating the intricate patchwork of events, issues, and perspectives that made the sixties decade so vital and so unique on recent American history. As with the Civil War, we are unlikely to see its like again. Those of us who remember it as a time of pitch and moment regret it, though clearly other more constipated and conservative voices hardly agree. Read this one before the nattering nabobs of negativity at the helm of the media succeed in explaining it all away.

Amos : To Ride A Dead Horse

Author: Stanley Gordon West
Average review score:

A good read, but disturbing
I enjoyed this book, but only gave it 4 stars because the subject matter ws very hard for me to read. If you have any relatives in nursing homes, this story will hit home. The plot is all the more disturbing because it is based on true events from a real nursing home. West again creates characters who are dynamic and persever even when faced with amazing odds.

Brilliant Book
An extraordinary book, highly entertaining and very suspenseful. A celebration of the human spirit!

Antique & Collectible Stanley Tools: Guide to Identity & Value
Published in Paperback by Tool Merchant (June, 1996)
Author: John Walter

THE BIBLE for Stanley tool collectors and researchers
This extensive book covers almost every tool made by Stanley. The author had assistance from the Stanley Works in Conn and many major tool collectors. Tools are very accurately described so that amature collectors can determine the model , manufacture date and current value of most Stanley tools. A very detailed review of the major categories of planes and patents is presented in the back of the book along with a complete index by tool model number. If you collect Stanley tools, this book HAS to be in your workshop.

Informative, Interesting, Exhaustive
The sine-qui-non of tool collecting references. If you can't find it in Walters book chances are you won't find it anywhere. Okay you have a #3 plane but what type of #3 plane? The differences can be subtle but important (like a fine wine). Any serious tool collector or curious tool user will enjoy this book.

One Resource of Many.....
Use a wide variety of resources to prepare for the exam. Probably the most valuable ones are the actual most recently administered tests. Reading the thoughts of people who have spent a lot of time thinking about the test can't hurt though.

kaplan
Great study guide...easy to grasp. This one gave me the edge to master the LSAT. I purchased many other books and study aides, but found the information here to be the best.

Excellent Choice
This book does much to unravel the mystery surrounding the LSAT (Law school admission test). Other books I purchased for my upcoming LSAT examination offered little or no detailed information on answers. This book used amazing yet understandable logic and demonstrated a keen knowledge of the average pre-law student's mentality. If you must buy one book for your LSAT, this is it!

You Paid How Much For That?: How to Win at Money Without Losing at Love
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass (27 March, 2002)
Authors: Natalie H. Jenkins, Scott M. Stanley, William C. Bailey, and Howard J. Markman
Average review score:

Excellent Information, Poorly Presented
I really enjoyed the content of this book.

Outstanding book for couples
This is an outstanding book for couples who want to succeed in their marriage and financial affairs. Not too many books out there that deal with relationship and finance, many couples today deal with the financial issues presented to them but never see the other issues in their relationships that also affect their financial situation. This is a must read book!!!!!

Money Matters
I was surprised to find this book not only an accessible read but also a highly informative volume. There are very few books on the market that deal with financial issues in relationships and how to deal with them. Strange, since money issues are one of the top problems people encounter in their relationships. This book is focused on turning finances into a solvable problem rather than an interminable argument in a relationship.

The book is set up in four parts. The first part walks you through all of the things that can affect a relationship: from hidden issues, to expectations, to gender differences. The second presents ideas and techniques to use in discussing difficult or emotional issues. The third part is the real financial section. It takes you step by step through the basics of financial planning: saving, spending, buying a house, investing, insurance, estate planning, taxes... The fourth part brings relationship tips and financial guidance together, showing you how this can form the groundwork of a strong and lasting partnership.

Most people do not receive an education in financial planning let alone how to work with that in a relationship. This book provides an easy way to deal with those issues. Not only does it provide you with the skills to discuss these matters, but it also gives you a good, basic understanding of how to deal with finances. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone in a relationship - you will get something out of this.
